About Me

I’m a postdoctoral researcher at University of Maryland. I find myself working on problems in learning theory, graph theory, and information theory. I’m currently working on the foundations of Large Language Models (LLMs), especially from a dynamical-systems angle. I have spent a significant amount of my time studying gossiping networks (a type of communication protocol) from a statistical physics perspective, and I have a continued interest in this direction.

My current appointment is in Sennur Ulukus’s lab in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. I received my PhD in Mathematics from University of Illinois Chicago in 2024, advised by Lev Reyzin.

Thomas vs. Jake: My legal name is Thomas and I use this as my primary identifier in my papers. However in social settings I go by my middle name Jacob/ Jake.
